Voice to text, free online
Voice to text, also called speech to text, turns a spoken recording into written words. In Vespernote you record in the browser or the app, and AI writes the transcript and notes the language it heard. From there you can get a summary, pull out action items or translate it, and the recording stays attached to the text so you can check any line. You can try it here without an account.
Why use Vespernote's voice to text?
A clean transcript you can copy
AI writes out what you said as plain text and labels it with the language it heard. Copy it into an email or a document, or keep it as a note.
Summary and action items from the same recording
Switch to the Summary tab and AI turns the transcript into a short summary and a list of things to do. Send the to-dos to your planner as tasks.
Translate the transcript
Translate the note into another language without leaving it.
Keep the recording with the text
The audio stays attached to the note, so you can play back the part you want to check or open it in the voice editor.

Accuracy and privacy
How accurate is voice to text?
We haven't published an accuracy measurement, so we don't quote a percentage. Results depend on the speaker, background noise and the microphone. Check names, numbers and technical terms against the recording before you rely on them. AI does the transcribing, the summary, the action items and the translation.
Record responsibly
Your audio and its transcript go to third-party AI providers for processing. Laws on recording other people differ by place, so ask before you record a meeting or a call, and only record what you are allowed to share.

Voice to text vs typing: which should you use?
Voice to text and speech to text mean the same thing. The choice is between talking and typing.

| Fixing mistakes | As you go | Afterwards, in the transcript |
| Works best | Anywhere | In a quiet room |

Voice to text FAQs
Minutes, accuracy, languages and saving your transcript.
How does voice to text work?
You record your voice, and a speech-to-text AI model on our servers writes out what you said. Vespernote labels the transcript with the language it heard and keeps the recording next to it.
Does voice to text use AI?
Yes. The transcript comes from a speech-to-text AI model, which third-party AI providers run for us. The summary and action items come from a language model.
Does voice to text require internet?
In Vespernote, yes. Transcription runs on our servers, so you need a connection to turn a recording into text.
Is voice to text safe?
Your audio and transcript go to third-party AI providers for processing, so only record what you are allowed to share. You can lock a note with a PIN and delete a note or your whole account at any time.
Is voice to text faster than typing?
It depends on how you work. Talking lets you get a thought down without stopping to type, and you can fix names and numbers in the transcript afterwards.
Why is voice to text not working?
Check that your browser or phone is allowed to use the microphone, that you are online, and that you still have transcription minutes left this month.
How do I convert a voice memo to text?
Record the memo in Vespernote, then press Transcribe. The text appears next to the recording.
Can I translate the transcript?
Yes. Open the Translate tab and choose a language. The translation stays in the same note.
Is there a voice to text app?
Yes. Vespernote runs in your browser and as an app for iOS and Android, and your notes are on each one when you sign in.
Can I get a summary of the transcript?
Yes. The Summary tab gives you a short summary and a list of action items from the same recording.
